Fiddletown,
California is a registered California Historical Landmark
(#35) community with a population of approximately 200
in the California foothills.
Fiddletown
is roughly 50 miles directly east of Sacramento, at an
elevation of 1687 feet.
Fiddletown
served as a trading center for numerous gold camps during
the California gold rush and had a very large Chinese
population at that time. In its heyday, it was a social
gathering place for weekend dances with people coming
from as far as San Francisco.
The town was renamed Oleta in 1878 but the Fiddletown
name was restored in 1932.
